What do we want to be?
”How do we want to live? It is not the new technologies that are at stake, but the use that men make of them” (Charlotte Perriand)
“What times will we live in, that we must defend the obvious” (Bertolt Brecht)

Modernity without floor
Paint markers and acrylic on paper, 70 x 100 cm, 2023
We live in a society of cyberneoliberalism in which the fury of putting asphalt on everything rules. Why create artificial worlds if we are not capable of taking care of the one we inhabit?

Mining
Paint markers on paper, 64 x 50.5 cm, 2022
“Companies poison the land, water and air to produce things we don't need. Before we lived from the cultivation of cocoa and livestock. When I look at the earth now, I feel like I'm looking at a cemetery. We do not want mining exploitation. They take away the most valuable thing we have. Our river, our environment, our land, our age.
Leoncia Ramos, anti-mining activist in Monte Plata. Dominican Republic. 2022.

We are all under this sky. By looking at the stars we learned to orient ourselves, to recognize the seasons, to define when to harvest. The sky is a forgotten map.

Parrotfish
Paint markers and acrylic on paper, 64 x 50.5 cm, 2022
The beak of the parrotfish is hard and serrated to be able to cut corals and digest them until they become sand, forming part of an important cycle that maintains the beaches. Despite its permanent ban, it is easily found in any restaurant, often disguised, only recognizable by its hard, serrated beak.

Eel Fever
Paint markers on paper, 64 x 50.5 cm, 2022
The elvers are not eels yet, they are their babies, but they may never become one.
They lead a complex life like their migrations. They are born in the Sargasso Sea and, from there, the small fry like soup noodles embark on a journey that can take years to find their river. Like other animals, elvers committed the sin of being considered a delicacy and, at a rate of 4 thousand dollars per kg, their indiscriminate fishing totally threatens their existence.
